I have seen this in multiage grouped classrooms but it was nice to see the conversations and interactions between my three kids at home last evening. Sid was sitting with a puzzle that he had not done before while Nish was guiding him through it. “Ok…where is octopus? good! now put it in…try again…yay!!! good job”. A little later, Nish called Sid over to help him open the lid of his Lego/Duplo box and Sid showed him how to do it “Like this okay?” The baby crawled over to check out the action and received a step by step demo on playing with Lego.
It is nice to see these interactions and watch how well and how naturally children learn and learn from each other. I realized that though they may be competitive at times, they try to make sure that the other sibling(s) are also able to play with the toys or enjoy the books. (Both S & N like to show their books to the baby and try to tell him what the books are about).
They are always eager to share what they see and learn with each other and i hope that does not change!
