My twins are so curious about everything I do that they are inevitably hovering around every time i want to start something…this can be cute but it can also be annoying. Sometimes i just want to get my chores done and out of the way so i can maybe put up legs and relax…read a book or listen to music. And if i don’t pay attention to all their questions they land up trying to do stuff with me and just creating more chaos. So i have started asking them to help me. For example, if we are folding clothes, i give them a few and ask them to sort the clothes (mine and my husband’s, the baby’s clothes, their clothes). Then i let them try to fold theirs. Obviously, this is a far cry from a neatly folded pile of laundry but they enjoy it and while they are ‘working’ i can get some work done too.
Similarly with clearing up a mess or cleaning the table or dusting the furniture. We have little brooms and sponges for the boys so they can join the cleaning when they feel like it.
I let them watch when i am in the kitchen and they help by giving me a spoon, or holding a cup, or tossing something into the trashcan.
They are still too small to actually help with the cooking but they love to watch.
On that note, we are off to make some crepes and steam some broccoli (or green flowers as we call them now)!
