delicious scented playdough!

We are planning a nice weekend escape from the fire crackers and unnecessary  noise. Already today the crackers have started and so has Nish’s wheeze. The poor fellow just coughed and coughed and threw up all his dinner. So i am glad we will miss the smoke and noise and smog and chaos. Inspired by I made a batch of super yummy smelling playdough for the boys and have packed it to take along. We have orange, chocolate (using cocoa powder), lavender (using some oil from a diffuser gift set i received) and strawberry (using jello). I used the same recipe as earlier ( but this time, after i divided the playdough into parts i added food color and essence. So i used orange color and orange essence, purple with lavender, brown with chocolate and i used some strawberry jello powder (which gave a very yummy scent and a gorgeous pink color). The boys of course wanted to play with it right away and were thrilled with the smell. A friend who had dropped in loved the lavender one and said it felt almost relaxing and therapeutic to play with it.  Will take that along with a bunch of cookie cutters, rolling pins, etc so the kids can play indoors. Anyway – wanted to share how awesome these scented doughs are…and super easy to make as well. In case you don’t want to make playdough  from scratch, you can even just add the fragrances to store bought playdough. I avoid using commercially available dough since we had one time when the baby accidentally swallowed some and threw up in shades of green and blue till we finally had to do a stomach wash. After that i decided to simply use fresh home made non toxic play dough so that i won’t have to worry about anyone ingesting it and getting sick.

I have also bought 2 clip boards in small sizes from Akanksha ( They have lovely designs on them and i have stocked them with plain one sided paper. I used a string to also attach a marker to each board and i have a few crayons that i have packed so the kids can keep busy drawing and coloring on the car ride tomorrow.

We have packed very few toys because they love just running wild in the garden. Will post more pics and updates tomorrow!

Mom - a word that defines me... I smell of oats, johnson's and home baked cookies I am pink, purple, green and orange and so is the floor my kids color on. Flour on my clothes and a brush in my pocket, my glasses bent out of shape and smudged with tiny fingerprints. I can't remember the date but i know almost 40 pictures books by heart. I wake up humming 'wheels on the bus'and i talk with my fingers and eyes and mouth. My bag carries band aids, napkins, wipes, crayons, papers, candy and sometimes my wallet. I know all the parks and very few of the restaurants in my neighborhood. Most of my shopping is diapers, books and paints My phd certificate lies in a roll, the frame now contains an abstract work of art by two year olds and i am prouder of that piece of paper. mom - a word that defines me!

  1. Gauri, P too is wheezy and prone to attacks. But off late have tried this recipe my ma suggested. Its worked with him. The frequency of neb use has come down.

Boil 1 inch stick of cinnamon and seed of 1 cardamom in water till water boils well for about 5 min. Cool and let the boys drink this water instead of the regular one. The taste is great and the slight tinge of brown makes P think its ‘special juice’
